Siblings Australia – the only organisation in Australia solely committed to the needs of siblings of children/adults with disability or chronic illness – is about to close its office due to a lack of government funding. We have set up a petition to the Australian government to reverse its decision.
Siblings of children/adults with special needs can grow up in a situation of stress and become ‘at risk’ for a number of longer term mental and physical health problems themselves.
However we have a range of programs and resources available to support not only siblings, but also their parents and providers as well.
We have developed a national and international reputation for this work and our Director has run workshops all around Australia, in the UK, US, Canada and Italy. It will be a tragedy if this expertise is lost.
