Disability Access and Facilities at Sea World is less than desirable

Bruce Bromley

Access & Facilities for People with a Disability - Sea World Gold Coast

Keywords - Disability | Disabled | Wheelchair | Accessible | Access | Fun Amusement Parks

As part of our family holiday last week we visited Sea World on the Gold Coast (Australia)

I would score the Access for people with a disability at 2 out of 10.

From the front entry and access throughout the site there are significant barriers for people with a disability and no serious approach towards wayfinding.

Barriers include;

  • An excessive number of level changes and no attempt to rectify
  • Stairways and ramps do not have complying handrails and Tactile Ground Surface Indicators
  • No wayfinding including TGSIs, signage with braille etc
  • Wheelchair access to eateries tucked away around corners that are not easily identifyable and signage not provide to indicate location.
  •

    Toilets - stating they were unsatisfactory would be understating their design condition. Refer photos below. These do not meet the current standards AS1428.1 - 2001, they do not even closely meet the requirements of the previous 1992 release.

    The following is the only Accessible Toilet that is centrally located within the park and services 2/3 of the parks attractions.
